Here are my lifts for the week:
- Standing vertical jump: 26.5" (my wife thinks it was more like 27"). I was able to get my fingers completely above the rim. With my best attempt, I had my toes pulled up and then I rolled forward as I dropped my hips into my jump. It seemed to help, but this goes against the recommended technique I've seen on-line.
- One-step two-foot vertical: 29", again. My technique doesn't feel fluid. I can feel my momentum slow down when I gather myself to jump.
- Broad jump: 99". I got this on the last jump.
- Front squats: 185 pounds for 5 reps on all sets. I'm going all the way down to where my hamstrings touched my calves.
- Good mornings: 185 pounds for 5 reps. Trying to find my groove on this exercise.
- Bench press: 225 pounds for 4 sets of 4 reps
- Overhead press: 150 pounds for 3 sets of 4 reps
- Barbell rows: 225 pounds for 4 sets of 4 reps
- Hang power cleans: I missed 225 pounds on both attempts. Maybe next week.
That is amazing that your overhead press is the same as your bench. Congrats on the games. I hope I can help coach my sons team when he gets old enough. Have you checked out the freak jump technique that candyman uses. The creator has a quite a few free videos with some really good tips that might help your form and technique. I found it really helpful. The video I like the best is this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=heNze9o2ftE#!
ReplyDeleteSorry, that was a typo. I had my barbell row and overhead press mixed up.
DeleteThanks for the YouTube video. I really want to improve my approach jump.
Hey C,
ReplyDeleteAre you able to hang on the rim on your no-step vert with one hand?
You must be dunking now or very very close.
Wish I had your strength!
After my game on Monday, I was able to get my hand 4 inches above the rim. At this point, dunking has a lot to do with practice and timing.
Deletefor sure! one of the rims i used to play on last year was like 2 inches low and was awesome to practice on. i think it helped me a ton by being able to practice dunking.
